Pope John Paul II tells the priest:

“Without an appropriate human development the whole priestly formation would be lacking in its own foundation” PROPOSITIO N. 21 This statemen from the Synodal Fathers espress non only an evidence daily suggested by reason and confirmed by experience, but a requirement which finds its deepest and most specific motivation in the inner essence of the presbyter and his priest hood juste in view of his office to be the most humanly credible and acceptable the priest should his human personality as much as to make it “a bridge” and not an “obstacle” for the others…after the example of Jesus who knew what every man hides in himself (Gv. 2,25) the priest must be able to understand the human heart in its depth , to apprehend difficulties and problems, to facilitate meeting and dialogue, to gain trust and cooperation to express calm and objective appraisals”. What is needed is then education to love for the truh, to fairness education to the respect for each human, to sense of justice,to lolyalty for the given word, to real compassion, to coherence and, in particular, to a balance of wisdom and behaviour. Very important is the ability of dealing withe other people, real essential point for the one who is entrusted with the responsability of a community and for the one who is appointed to be a man of communion". This calls for a priest who is neither arrogant nor contentious but on the contrary is gracious, inviting, sincere in his words and heart, prudent and discreet , generous and willing to be at people’s service, able to offer himself and to arouse frank and friendly relations in everyone, ready to comprehend, forgive and comfort. In the contest of today’s humanity condemned to standardization and solitude one of the most eloquent signes of communion and announcement of the evengelic message and, for this reason, characterizing and resolutive sign is the development to affective maturity, as outcome of an education to deep and responsible love.
