In 1953 Our Good Lord chose Siracuse to glorifay our Lady so that pious people longing for forgiveness and faith could understand and love her more. With this gift to the people of Siracuse our Good Lord wanted to seach everyone in Italy and the world because the tears of our Lady of Siracuse have been known, preached and studied.
Shortly: 4 memorable days: August 29th 30th -31st and September 1st when a chalk picture of our Lady by sculptor Amilcare Santini from Cecina- hung on a frane in black opaline and completid in the eyes by Costantina Cassai-begins to tear at the Iannusos' at 11, Via degli Orti . The Iannuso family is poor but decent, generosus but struck by distrees,Antonina newly- married to Angelo Iannuso and pregnant is suffering from serious disorders and eyesight drop.
The tears appear at Antonina's awakening on August 29th "I realized the portrait was weeping " Her sister-in law Grazia and aunt Antonina thougth she was under hallucination but coming to the frame verified tears from the Lady's eyes and noticed some dropes down from the cheeks onto the bed-head. At 5 o clock p.m. coming back home from work her husband Angelo admits the truthfulness of the event- meanwhile all the neighbourhood is acquainted with the fact and moves on a likely to be pilgrinage. At 2'o clock a.m on Sunday August 30th our little Lady comes back.to Via Orti 11: the previous evening the picture Was taken to the police-hadquarters for a short time then to Antonina's brother Luciano's and secondly to brother Antonino's at 1 Via degli Orti. People reached the hause from everywere and on widing at the door compelled the family to run away but then to came back in order to satisfy the uncontenable desire to experience the unique wonder.
On Monday August 31st for the whole day the tears come down from the eyes and can be seen by all the onlookers who get an enduring and very moving memory. Many people could so watch, receive and dry Holy Mary's tears .
On Tuesday September 1st at 11,40 Our Lady stops weeping but for 15 minutes the scientific board of doctors slut by the Archbischop's see of Siracusa has been able to verifay and take abaut 30 drops of liquid to be chemically analized -on the wole - a cubic centimeter of liquid turned aut of a totally human kind at the test. Now it is right to ask : Pretty Lady, why have you cried? We ourselves can give an answer if wy return to God with real faith.
